Duration:

Temporary externally funded non Grant-in-Aid contract post, the indicative duration of which is 7 months, subject to contract. A panel may be formed from which future similar vacancies may be filled; such a panel will remain active for a maximum period of 12 months.

Basic Function

This research officer appointed will be involved in the project management of the IMPRESS project, contributing extensively to the coordination of the project, technical and financial reporting and communicating with project partners across Europe to ensure. The person recruited should have exceptional project management and writing skills and be a good communicator with a capacity to organise, manage and prioritise a significant workload, often working to tight deadlines.

This position will suit a scientist who can work in a dynamic environment and has an interest in mission oriented research of relevance to economic and environmental sustainability. The appointee will also be expected to work with the wider project team within Teagasc to ensure deliverables are met and disseminate the research outcomes to the scientific community, agri-food industry stakeholders, government and other state agencies.

The appointee will be based at the Teagasc National Prepared Consumer Food (NPCF) Centre, at Ashtown, Dublin 15. The Research Officer will, while working in conjunction with senior research staff, gain insight and experience into a variety of areas including the processes of project and budgetary management, the development of active collaboration with relevant national and international research communities, the development of communication and presentation skills and possible experience in the mentorship of students.

Background

IMPRESS is a new €6.5M Horizon Europe co-funded Innovation Action, co-ordinated by Teagasc. The project objective is to create, test, upscale and bring to the market new knowledge-intensive products derived from side streams of marine processing. This will support the EU’s long-term commitment to address economic, environmental and societal challenges whilst developing fair, healthy and environmentally-friendly food systems and other consumer goods from primary production to tangible end products. The key focus of the IMPRESS (www.impress-he.eu) project ` is to showcase the real value of marine side streams to processors and producers, highlighting the innovative processes and products that can underpin the sustainability of the marine sector.

• Implementation of the project, work plan as detailed in the Grant Agreement to meet agreed milestones and deliverables.
• To assist in planning and carry out pilot plant trials at Teagasc centres.
• Design experiments and processing trials, laboratory/pilot plant management activities associated with the project.
• Transfer of data from production, processing and shelf-life to partners for life cycle analysis (LCA) analysis of marine based ingredients
• To provide an effective administrative framework to support the management and coordination of the IMPRESS research project.
• To assist Teagasc in meeting the commitments of the Quality Customer Service Charter and Action Plan.
• To actively participate in the annual business planning and Performance Management Development System (PMDS) processes.
• Fully co-operate with the provisions made for ensuring the health, safety and welfare of themselves, fellow staff and non-Teagasc staff and co-operate with management in enabling Teagasc to comply with legal obligations. This includes full compliance with the responsibilities outlined in the Safety Statement.
