Job Title: Health and Safety Advisor – Solar Farm Construction
Location: East Galway
Employment Type: fixed-term contract – 12 months
Reports To: Project Manager / HSE Manager
Overview:
We are seeking an experienced Health and Safety Officer to oversee and support the implementation of Health and Safety, (HSEQ) standards during the construction of a large-scale Solar Farm project in Ireland. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring that all site operations are carried out safely, efficiently, and in compliance with Irish legislation and company standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Implement and monitor the company’s Health & Safety policies, procedures, and statutory requirements on site.
- Develop, review, and approve Risk Assessments (RAs) and Method Statements (RAMS) to ensure they are practical, project-specific, and compliant with legal and best-practice standards.
- Conduct regular site inspections, audits, and toolbox talks to promote a positive safety culture and identify potential hazards.
- Support site management and contractors in implementing control measures and corrective actions following incidents, near-misses, or audit findings.
- Maintain detailed safety records, reports, and documentation as required under Irish H&S legislation.
- Liaise with the Project Manager, subcontractors, and client representatives to ensure all site personnel understand and comply with safety requirements.
- Coordinate induction and ongoing training for site workers and visitors.
- Participate in safety meetings, incident investigations, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Keep up to date with Irish Health & Safety legislation, codes of practice, and renewable energy sector standards.
Essential Requirements:
- Minimum of 3–5 years’ experience as a Health & Safety Officer (preferably in construction, industrial engineering, or renewable energy projects).
- Proven experience in the creation, review, and implementation of Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS).
- Recent experience working on Irish or EU construction sites (within the last 3 years).
- Recognised H&S qualification such as NEBOSH Diploma, or equivalent (NFQ Level 7 or higher preferred).
- Strong knowledge of Irish Health & Safety legislation and familiarity with the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act and Construction Regulations.
- Excellent communication, reporting, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams and subcontractors.
- Competent IT skills (MS Office, incident reporting systems, etc.).
Desirable:
- Experience within the solar PV, electrical, or renewable energy construction sector.
- Experience managing multiple contractors on large-scale infrastructure projects.
- First Aid, Manual Handling Instructor, or other relevant safety certifications.
