About the Role

We are currently recruiting for a Spotter/Firewatch General Operative to join our team working onsite with a leading Mechanical Contracting operation at the GSK pharmaceutical facility in Cork.

This is a critical safety role supporting hot work, maintenance, and mechanical activities in a high-standard industrial/pharmaceutical environment. The successful candidate will act as a dedicated spotter and firewatch to ensure compliance with strict safety protocols while assisting general operative duties. Working hours are Monday - Friday 7-3.30pm. You will need to drive as the site is not accessible by public transport before 7am.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform continuous firewatch and spotting duties during hot work activities (welding, cutting, grinding, etc.) to monitor for sparks, fire hazards, and smouldering materials.
  • Patrol and monitor designated work areas before, during, and after hot work (including a post-work observation period).
  • Identify and remove or mitigate combustible materials and fire hazards in the work zone.
  • Maintain and check fire extinguishers, fire blankets, and other safety equipment.
  • Assist mechanical teams with general operative tasks such as site housekeeping, material handling, barricading, and setup/teardown of work areas.
  • Ensure full compliance with site safety permits, Hovione procedures, and company H&S standards.
  • Communicate effectively with welders, supervisors, and site safety personnel; report any unsafe conditions immediately.
  • Maintain accurate records of firewatch activities and incidents.
  • Support broader site operations as required in a flexible, hands-on capacity.

Requirements

  • Previous experience in a Firewatch / Spotter / Safety Watch role or general operative position in construction, mechanical, industrial, or pharma environments is highly desirable.
  • Valid Safe Pass card (or equivalent Irish construction safety certification).
  • Firewatch / Hot Work Safety training preferred (or willingness to complete site-specific training).
  • Strong understanding of hot work safety procedures and hazard awareness.
  • Excellent observational skills, reliability, and ability to remain vigilant during shifts.
  • Good communication skills and ability to work as part of a team in a regulated site.
  • Physically fit and comfortable working in a live industrial/pharmaceutical environment (PPE compliance essential).
  • Right to work in Ireland.
