Archdiocese of Tuam
Clergy Health and Wellbeing Officer
The Archdiocese of Tuam (south Mayo, parts of Galway and Roscommon) invites applications for the Fixed Term position of Clergy Health and Wellbeing Officer.
The holder of this position has the responsibility for:
· assisting and supporting clergy in making their own care decisions and care plans;
· acting as an advocate for clergy who are in need of care;
· assisting the Archdiocese in fulfilling its responsibilities towards the health and wellbeing of its clergy;
Hours of Work: 20 hours per week.
Remuneration: €35,000 per annum. Travel expenses are paid.
Annual Leave: 20 days, plus statutory days.
Duration of Contract: Two year fixed-term contract.
Probationary period: Six months from date of starting.
Qualifications:
Applicants should have a minimum of 5 years’ experience, with a recognised nursing / caring qualification, and in general nursing / elderly care / community nursing. Experience in psychiatric nursing would be an advantage, but not essential. Registeredwith NMBI (Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland)
Full eligibility to work in Ireland.
Responsibilities
· Visiting clergy who are in need of care and building a relationship of trust with them.
· Assessing the physical and emotional wellbeing of clergy who are in need of care.
· Become aware of the living environments of clergy with a view to proper safety.
· Liaise, when required, between clergy, family and health care providers.
· Assist and support clergy in making their own care decisions and care plans.
· Acting as an advocate for clergy who are in need of care.
· Be informed of all state grants and supports that may be available to clergy, and
assist in such applications.
· Establish clergy entitlements and engage with civil authorities in this regard.
· Arranging, where necessary, transport to medical appointments.
· Assist the diocese in exercising it’s responsibilities regarding clergy.
· Reporting to the Diocesan Secretary on a regular basis.
· Assisting clergy in planning for retirement.
· Maintaining all records in accordance with GDPR regulations.
As wellbeing and elderly care is evolving, responsibilities will also change in line with best practice. Amendment to such responsibilities, following discussion with the post holder, may lead to a change of commensurate duties.
Experience and Abilities
· Have relevant clinical knowledge and skills, including an understanding of complex medical conditions and procedures, and specialised care for older people.
· Possess good listening skills, sensitivity, and the ability to build rapport with people.
· Experience of caring for people with health issues and developing appropriate care plans.
· Experience of making professional judgements in relation to care plans.
· Experience in elder mediation / advocacy.
· Be self-motivated, focussed on goals, adaptable, innovative and enthusiastic.
· Experience of adult safeguarding and GDPR regulations.
· Good organisational skills, including prioritising and meeting deadlines.
· Have administrative and IT skills.
· Flexibility in hours/days may be required, as the need may arise, from time to time.
· Willingness to undergo Garda vetting and adhere to safeguarding policy.
· Possess a clean current driving licence and access to own transport.
· Knowledge of clergy working terms and conditions in the Archdiocese.
