Job Title Social Care Worker
Hours of Work: You will be required to work both day and night shifts (Monday to Sunday) in accordance with the roster which is published weekly in advance.
Salary: 36,000 - 45,000 euros per year
Holidays: 20 days per annum pro rata
Reporting to: Social Care Manager
Contract: 1 year Fixed - Full Time
Location: Dublin 9, Ireland
Regulated by: (HIQA) and Tusla
Job Purpose
To provide high-quality care and support to children in care who are separated from their families and seeking international protection, in line with HIQA and Tusla National Standards. The Social Care Worker will create a safe, nurturing, and inclusive environment where each young person’s welfare, cultural identity, and personal development are respected and promoted.
Key Responsibilities
1. Child-Centred Care & Support
- Deliver person-centred care to children and young people in accordance with their individual care plans and cultural needs.
- Support young people in adjusting to life in Ireland, including access to education, healthcare, legal supports, and community integration.
- Promote independence, resilience, and life skills development.
- Build positive, trusting relationships that empower children and promote emotional well-being.
2. Cultural Sensitivity & Inclusion
- Recognize and respect each young person’s cultural, religious, and linguistic background.
- Facilitate access to interpreters, cultural activities, and relevant community supports.
3. Safeguarding & Protection
- Ensure all work practices comply with Children First: National Guidance for the Protection and Welfare of Children.
- Recognize and report any concerns regarding the safety or welfare of a child in line with policy and statutory requirements.
- Promote a culture of safety, dignity, and respect within the home.
4. Compliance & Record-Keeping
- Work in compliance with HIQA National Standards for Children’s Residential Centres and the Children’s Residential Centres (Care and Welfare) Regulations 2011.
- Maintain accurate and confidential records, reports, and documentation.
- Participate fully where required in inspections & audits
5. Teamwork & Professional Practice
- Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team to ensure coordinated care.
- Participate in staff meetings, handovers, supervision, and ongoing training.
- Engage in reflective practice and contribute to continuous improvement of the service.
Qualifications and Experience
Essential:
- Level 7 or Level 8 qualification in Social Care or a related discipline (e.g., Applied Social Studies, Psychology, Youth and Community Work, or other qualification deemed equivalent by Tusla).
- Knowledge of HIQA and Tusla standards and regulatory requirements for children’s residential services.
- Understanding of trauma-informed care, child protection, and cultural diversity.
- Experience supporting children or young people in a care, residential, or community setting.
Desirable:
- Experience working with separated children seeking international protection, asylum seekers, or refugee communities.
- Knowledge of the Irish International Protection system and relevant legislation.
- Full, clean driver’s licence.
