Full job description

Premier Life Sciences is seeking experienced microbiologists to join our growing team.

SUMMARY OF ROLE:

Applications are welcomed from candidates with a minimum of 3 years’ experience in microbiology, ideally within an accredited contract testing laboratory or food industry laboratory. Excellent opportunities for career development and progression with options to progress quickly to Senior / Supervisor / Team Lead and Specialist roles.

Your role will include performing all stages of microbiological testing for full range of enumeration and pathogen tests using various techniques including PCR and MALDI-TOF; assisting with method development, validation and supervision and training across microbiology team as well as providing support for QC testing.

Key Responsibilities

1. Perform microbiological testing including confirmation and identification tests for a variety of enumeration and detection methods

2. Perform QC testing to support media QC and routine testing

3. Maintain reference and working cultures

4. Ensure results are entered and approved in a timely manner

5. Assist with training and supervision of colleagues across all areas of Microbiology Department

6. Assist with method development and validation

7. Assist with maintenance of laboratory equipment and supplies

8. Ensure daily equipment checks are performed as required by QMS

9. Participate in EQA scheme testing to ensure compliance with quality requirements

10. Ensure laboratory records are completed correctly and promptly to ensure adequate traceability

11. To abide by all company policies and procedures

12. To work in accordance with the Quality Management System (QMS) and Health and Safety guidelines

13. To inform Line Manager of any apparent problems/doubts while undertaking work delegated

14. To record and manage all data accurately and in the specified format (i.e., written and/or electronically)

15. To ensure your Training Record is current and reflective of training completed

16. To participate in investigations of Complaints and Non-Conforming Work as required

17. To participate in both Internal and External Audits as required

18. To ensure the appropriate PPE is used at all times whilst carrying out tasks as required

19. To ensure proper management of stock / consumables required for completion of work

20. To ensure that your designated work area is kept clean and tidy at all times

Qualifications

  • Third level qualification in Microbiology / Science is preferred
  • Minimum of three years’ practical experience of working in microbiology laboratory
  • Experience in contract testing laboratory or food industry desirable
  • Cat 3 laboratory / molecular technique experience desirable
  • Detailed practical knowledge and bench experience of all stages of microbiological testing
  • Fluent in English and confident with record keeping
  • Good organisational and IT skills and ability to plan and manage own workload
  • Able to work alone and within a team. Flexible and adaptive to changes in business requirements
  • Willingness to learn and develop
  • Task focussed working under agreed deadlines, technically minded with good attention to detail
