Trinity Support & Care Services are looking for a suitably qualified and motivated Social Care Workers to join our new Children's Residential Service in Cootehill Co. Cavan. Our Social Care Workers role will promote and deliver safe person centred care, ensuring regulatory and contract compliance whilst at all times promoting the values and brand of Trinity Support and Care Services.


Job Title

Social Care Worker - Drumgola House, Cavan, Co Cavan


We are currently seeking experienced staff who have a strong background in supporting individuals with complex needs and managing intense behavioural challenges.


The ideal candidates will have proven experience in:

  • Supporting individuals who present with behaviours of concern.
  • Implementing positive behaviour support strategies.
  • Managing challenging situations in a calm, professional, and person-centred manner.
  • Maintaining accurate records and completing detailed incident reports.
  • Working collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams, families, and external professionals.
  • Promoting the safety, wellbeing, and quality of life of the individuals they support.


Experience within residential care, supported living, learning disability services, autism services, or mental health settings would be highly advantageous.

Candidates should be resilient, adaptable, and committed to delivering high-quality care and support while maintaining dignity, respect, and positive outcomes for service users.


Core duties (but not limited to):

  • Provide holistic supports with day to day living, for individuals with an intellectual disability, autism or associated mental health needs.
  • Provide person-centred and empowering provisions of support, as per individual needs assessment.
  • Ensure the Human Rights of each service user is exercised with the upmost degree of integrity and respect.
  • Ensure a safe environment is maintained at all times.
  • Ensure each service user is encouraged to live in accordance with their own wishes and preferences, and their individuality promoted as far as possible; through new opportunities, promotion of skills and innate abilities.
  • Ensure that each service user is being afforded with the correct information to allow for informed decision making on their part at all levels.
  • Ensure each service user is supported in the least restrictive of ways and positive risk taking is a given element to their decision making abilities.
  • Support must also be in accordance with a low arousal and non-aversive manner.
  • Personal outcomes are achieved in keeping with each service user, with clear goals, steps for achieving such and timeframes.
  • Ensure that supports are prioritised and key commitments kept accordingly
  • Work in line with evidence based practices.
  • Ensure that each person is supported to live life to their fullest potential, and remain (or become) socially valued members of their communities.
  • Ensure that you work in a positive manner and professionally contribute to your staff team and wider organisation
  • Maintain a high level of hygiene and cleanliness of the residential setting at all times, and ensure that all procedures relating to safe food practices and infection control are carried out and documented
  • Maintain folders, written reports, risk assessments and complete daily paperwork
  • Follow medication administration procedures, ensuring medication is administered using the 10 rights of medication administration.
  • Ensure documentation procedures are followed correctly and all actions are exercised in a timely manner.
  • Ensure all other practices are in place to Safeguard service user's medications and monies are exercised accordingly, as per policy
  • Adhere to all policies, procedures, regulations (in particular HIQA Framework), Employee Handbook, and working practices of the organisation.
  • Participate in meetings and service user reviews; and feed back information to management and the wider MDT when appropriate to do so.


Essential Criteria

  • Prior experience in a similar role i.e. residential care/intellectual disability/autism.
  • Have experience of supporting individuals whose behaviour can be deemed as challenging.
  • Experience with computers and Microsoft packages, i.e. word, excel, SharePoint
  • A full driving license, permitting use in Ireland.


Desirable Criteria

  • Experience of Key Working and experience in similar roles.
  • Experience in supporting people with Intellectual Disabilities/Autism or Associated Mental Health issues.
  • Experience in supporting adults with complex needs (behaviours which may be deemed as challenging in community settings)
  • Knowledge and experience of implementing National Standards and Regulations (HIQA).
