LOCATION: Shannon, Ireland

Shape the future of modern luxury at our R&D Software Development campus situated in Shannon. Develop cutting-edge software, and computer vision alongside global experts to make our iconic vehicles safer, smarter and more capable than ever before. Use your expertise to deliver an exceptional driving experience and push the boundaries of what’s possible. Let’s create an exceptional future together.

JLR is recruiting for a Senior Embedded Software Engineer (C/C++) & Cyber Security to work within the Cyber Security Engineering area, playing a key role in the full lifecycle engineering of secure, high-quality embedded software for automotive platforms. This role is hands on, covering embedded software design and implementation, testing, compliance artefacts, and supporting integration across multiple vehicle platforms, all within a modern, security focused engineering environment.

You’ll bring strong experience in software architecture and design patterns, alongside proven development skills in C and/or C++ for embedded, POSIX based operating systems such as Linux, QNX, or Android. Experience working with high performance automotive platforms, including ARM A-Profile based SoCs and HPC BSPs, is essential, as is a solid understanding of cyber security functions such as encryption, key management, firewall configuration, and DAC/MAC controls.

This role suits someone who enjoys challenging embedded software engineering work and collaborating within a multidisciplinary team. The ability to produce clear, logical, and timely outputs is key, and experience within automotive or other regulated industries such as aerospace or medical devices would be highly beneficial.

WHAT TO EXPECT

In this role, you’ll play a key part in delivering high-quality outcomes and supporting the wider team through a range of responsibilities, including –

  • Design, develop, and maintain high-quality embedded software for security-critical applications to meet specific cyber security goals
  • Produce supporting documentation and compliance artefacts
  • Integrate software components into a variety of POSIX based embedded platforms
  • Work collaboratively with in-house and Tier 1 cross functional teams to deliver high quality customer experiences
  • Systematically document, organise, and analyse security-related information to gain insights into security operations and enhance overall security posture
  • Develop, document, and institutionalise embedded software engineering and cyber security best practices, guidelines, and procedures, ensuring consistency and reliability across the organisation

WHAT YOU’LL NEED

We’re looking for someone with the right blend of experience, qualifications, and practical skills, including –

  • Demonstrated understanding of software architecture and strong programming skills in C and C++, with the ability to write efficient, reliable, and secure embedded code
  • In-depth familiarity with POSIX standards, specifically in embedded Linux, Android, or QNX environments, ensuring seamless integration and compatibility
  • Extensive hands-on experience developing kernel and user space software built on BSPs for SoCs based around ARM A-Profile cores or similar high performance embedded platforms
  • Strong experience integrating embedded software components into complex platform environments
  • Comprehensive experience in embedded software development, covering various stages of the software lifecycle, from initial design to deployment and maintenance

Creating Modern Luxury requires a modern approach to work. At JLR, hybrid working is a voluntary, non-contractual arrangement providing employees more choice and flexibility around how, when and where they work. Some roles require more on-site work, but details of this can be discussed with the hiring manager during the interview stage.

We work hard to nurture a culture that is inclusive and welcoming to all. We understand candidates may require reasonable adjustments during the recruitment process. Please discuss these with your recruiter so we can accommodate your needs.

Applicants from all backgrounds are welcome. If you’re unsure that you meet the full criteria of a role – but you're interested in where it could take you – we still encourage you to apply. We believe in people's ability to grow and develop within their role – it’s what makes living the exceptional with soul possible.

JLR is committed to equal opportunity for all.
