PFH Technology Group are seeking a Database Administrator to join one of our key clients to be fully remote in Ireland.
Overview:
A skilled and experienced Database Administrator is required to support a range of strategic projects involving SQL Server environments. This role involves managing, maintaining, and optimizing databases while ensuring performance, security, and reliability standards are met.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide database support for upgrades, assessments, and migrations
- Offer expert advice to stakeholders on all aspects of database management
- Perform troubleshooting and resolution of database-related issues
- Conduct daily monitoring of the database estate
- Implement and enforce SQL Server security best practices
- Manage new database builds, upgrades, and server migrations
- Perform database backups and restores as required
- Install service packs, cumulative updates, and patches
- Monitor and maintain storage resources and database maintenance plans
- Utilize DBA tools for deployment and management tasks
Deliverables:
- Conduct health check assessments of the SQL database estate
- Identify and document SQL Servers/Databases
- Record configuration details, versions, dependencies, and backup status
- Validate backup integrity and test restore processes
- Analyze storage and configuration needs
- Execute database migrations to new environments
- Configure new SQL Servers and instances
- Apply patches and updates
- Transfer databases and create rollback plans
- Post-migration tasks
- Ongoing monitoring of the database environment
- Update documentation
- Decommission outdated or redundant servers
Required Skills & Competencies:
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in SQL Database Administration
- Experience managing and monitoring replicated SQL databases
- Strong knowledge of database security, backup/recovery, and performance tuning
- Familiarity with business continuity strategies related to database systems
- PowerShell scripting (desirable)
- Proficiency in creating stored procedures, views, and functions
