GET TO KNOW US
At Brown Thomas Arnotts, we are Reinventing Retail. Our purpose is to enrich our customer’s lives, which we achieve by living our values – Going Above and Beyond, Driving Creativity and Innovation, and Doing the Right Thing. We are one business with two iconic brands, bringing exciting experience to life through our digital and physical destinations. Our customer engagement sets the bar in service and experiential retail, giving our customers something to love every time.
KNOW THE ROLE
Reporting to the Digital Test Lead, this is an exciting opportunity for a curious, detail-driven individual to begin their career in software quality assurance and test automation. You'll join the team behind our digital destinations, helping ensure our web and mobile applications (iOS and Android) deliver the seamless experience our customers expect.
You'll start by learning our products and the business context behind them, contributing to manual and exploratory testing from day one. As your understanding of the product deepens, you'll progressively take on automated testing work, supported closely by senior team members.
This role is based in our Head Office location in South Anne Street.
Key Responsibilities:
- Learn our business domain, products, and how customers use our web and mobile applications
- Execute manual and exploratory test cases against defined acceptance criteria
- Log clear, reproducible defects and support the defect triage process
- Contribute to test documentation such as test cases, test plans, and results. Using tools such as TestRail, Jira and Confluence
- Support User Acceptance Testing (UAT) cycles alongside the wider QA team and stakeholders
- Take part in Agile ceremonies including daily stand-ups, sprint planning, and retrospectives
- Progressively learn to write and maintain automated tests in Playwright, mentored by senior team members
- Progressively learn API testing skills using tools such as Postman and REST-based automation, mentored by senior team members
- Contribute automated coverage to our regression suites as your confidence grows
- Use AI-assisted testing tooling (such as Claude, Cursor, OpenAI etc..) to speed up and standardise test creation
- Develop awareness of specialist testing areas over time, including accessibility (NVDA, VoiceOver) and data privacy compliance
KNOW WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
- A third level degree or equivalent in Computing, Software Engineering or a related area would be an advantage but is not essential
- A genuine interest in software quality and a real appetite to learn test automation is what matters most
- Some exposure to at least one programming language such as Java, C#, Python or JavaScript. Through study, a bootcamp, or personal projects
- A clear communicator, comfortable liaising with technical and non-technical colleagues, with an ability to describe bugs in a broader business context, explaining impact to non-technical stakeholders in terms they understand
- Strong attention to detail with an ability to manage several tasks simultaneously
- Strong analytical skills and a methodical, investigative mindset
- A basic understanding of how software is built, tested and released, or a clear willingness to learn
- Self-motivated with strong initiative, comfortable asking questions and progressing tasks with support
- ISTQB Foundation Level certification would be desirable but is not essential
- Any hands-on exposure to Playwright, Selenium or Cypress, or familiarity with Git, APIs/HTTP or JSON, would be beneficial
