Full job description

Fitz Scientific is a world class monitoring and testing team, that meet and exceed our customers expectations. Due to continued growth and development we wish to recruit a Laboratory Assistant to join a our team based in Drogheda, Co. Louth.

Main tasks:

  • Adhere to all Health and Safety requirements including PPE usage.
  • To perform work as allocated to the highest quality standards to meet the ISO 17025 standard.
  • As a member of the team, to ensure the laboratory areas are kept clean and tidy, especially designated areas.
  • Ensure all operations are carried out in a safe manner with due regard and in compliance with Environmental, Health and Safety procedures.
  • Ensure confidentiality is maintained at all times with respect to customer information.
  • Work with speed and accuracy to complete within customer timeframe.
  • Carry out equipment and instrument calibrations as required.
  • Take samples between laboratories as required.
  • Assist in the preparation of analysis in the laboratory.
  • Set up workstations in advance for the Lab Analysts with samples in place , glassware set out and labelled, samples weighed etc.
  • Assist in the preparation of media, media QC, autoclaving media and waste, preparation.
  • Assist with any customer and colleagues’ requests, taking calls, answering emails promptly, answering the door, etc
  • Keep the chiller room tidy and organised and do purges to ensure there are no delays for Lab Analysts searching for samples.
  • Continual housekeeping and cleaning in the laboratory. Ensuring walkways are kept clear to prevent tripping and all items are in correct places, any empty boxes, trolleys etc.
  • Hand wash jars, sample containers and operate the dishwasher as required.
  • Use initiative to complete tasks.

Required:

  • Good Leaving Certificate
  • Good attitude to work
  • Conscientious and willing to learn
  • A strong eye for detail
  • Ability to thrive under pressure and work as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.

Working hours 8.30 - 5.00pm Monday - Friday
