About the Role
Xpress Health is seeking a dedicated and experienced Specialist General Practitioner (GP) to join a well-established GP practice in Dundalk, Co. Louth. The successful candidate will provide comprehensive primary healthcare services to a diverse patient population while working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary primary care team.The GP will be responsible for delivering high-quality, evidence-based medical care, managing both acute and chronic illnesses, promoting preventative healthcare, and ensuring continuity of care in accordance with Irish Medical Council (IMC) and HSE standards.
Role & Responsibilities:
- Provide comprehensive primary medical care to patients of all age groups.
- Diagnose, investigate, and manage acute and chronic medical conditions.
- Conduct face-to-face, telephone, and virtual consultations where appropriate.
- Prescribe medications and treatments in accordance with Irish Medical Council and HSE guidelines.
- Develop and implement management plans for patients with chronic diseases including Diabetes, COPD, Asthma, Hypertension, Cardiovascular Disease, and Mental Health conditions.
- Perform minor medical procedures within the scope of General Practice.
- Interpret laboratory results, ECGs, imaging reports, and other diagnostic investigations.
- Refer patients appropriately to secondary care, specialist services, and allied health professionals.
- Provide preventative healthcare including vaccinations, health screening, travel medicine advice, and health promotion.
- Participate in women's health, men's health, child health, and elderly care programs where applicable.
- Maintain accurate clinical records using Electronic Medical Record (EMR) systems.
- Ensure compliance with HSE clinical guidelines, Irish Medical Council ethical standards, GDPR, and practice policies.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives, clinical audits, and Continuous Professional Development (CPD).
- Work collaboratively with Practice Nurses, Healthcare Assistants, Administrative Staff, Pharmacists, and the wider multidisciplinary healthcare team.
- Participate in Out-of-Hours (OOH) services where required.
Essential Requirements
- Current Irish Medical Council (IMC) Specialist Registration in General Practice.
- Recognised specialist qualification in General Practice / Family Medicine.
- Minimum 2 years' recent experience working as a General Practitioner in Ireland.
- Experience managing GMS and private patients within Irish primary care.
- Excellent diagnostic, clinical assessment, and decision-making skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
- Eligibility to work in Ireland.
- Professional indemnity insurance (or eligibility to obtain).Commitment to evidence-based practice and continuous professional development.
Desirable
- Experience using GP Practice Management Systems such as Socrates, Health One, Helix Practice Manager, or similar EMR systems.
- Experience in Out-of-Hours (OOH) General Practice services.
- Interest or experience in chronic disease management clinics.
- Minor Surgery certification.
- Women's Health, Family Planning, or Dermatology experience.
- Substance Misuse treatment certification (advantageous).
- Experience supervising GP Registrars or medical students.
