Part-Time Medical Secretary – Consultant Private Practice, Sligo

Location: Sligo Town

Hours: Initially approximately 8 hours per week, with scope to increaseSalary: €18–€20 per hour, depending on experience

A busy and growing Consultant-led private medical practice in Sligo is seeking an experienced, organised and personable Part-Time Medical Secretary.

The position will initially involve approximately 8 hours per week, primarily on-site, with flexibility around the exact working arrangements. There is potential for the hours and responsibilities to increase as the practice develops.

The role

Duties will include:

  • Managing patient appointments and clinic schedules
  • Welcoming and assisting patients attending the practice
  • Medical typing and preparation of clinical correspondence
  • Managing, scanning and filing clinical documentation
  • Processing referrals, results and other correspondence
  • Liaising with GPs, hospitals and other healthcare professionals
  • Telephone and email administration
  • Maintaining accurate and confidential patient records
  • General administrative support to the Consultant
  • Helping to ensure the efficient day-to-day running of the practice

The ideal candidate

Previous experience as a medical secretary, medical administrator or GP/consultant practice secretary would be strongly preferred.

The successful candidate should have:

  • Excellent organisational and communication skills
  • Strong typing and computer skills
  • Familiarity with medical terminology and clinical correspondence
  • A professional and friendly manner with patients
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • An understanding of patient confidentiality and GDPR
  • The ability to work independently and take ownership of the administrative running of the practice

Experience with electronic medical records/practice-management systems would be an advantage.

Hours

Initially approximately 8 hours per week, with the possibility of increasing hours over time.

The role would particularly suit an experienced medical secretary looking for an additional regular day each week or someone seeking a flexible part-time position in a consultant private-practice setting.

Salary: €18 per hour depending on experience.
