Full job description

CREGG are looking for a motivated and hands-on Drug Delivery NPD Specialist to join a large medical device company in Cork. To contribute to the development of an exciting new range of cardiovascular drug delivery systems.

Reporting directly to the on-site Research Fellow, you will play a key role in driving product development from early-stage research through to the preparation for preclinical and clinical applications. Working closely with a multidisciplinary, cross-site team, you will bring your expertise in polymer synthesis, formulation and process development, and product characterisation to help develop innovative, high-quality drug delivery solutions.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys practical laboratory work, solving technical challenges, and taking ownership of development activities in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out polymer synthesis and adapt existing methods to support development, identify critical quality attributes (CQAs), and improve material performance.
  • Develop, optimise, and refine formulations and manufacturing processes for drug delivery systems, ensuring quality and regulatory requirements are considered throughout development.
  • Apply your knowledge of polymers, hydrogels, and drug-loaded carrier systems to design and develop innovative formulations.
  • Lead hands-on development activities, including material preparation, formulation, particle and hydrogel production, and post-processing.
  • Monitor and manage critical process steps and product formation activities to support consistent, reliable, and high-quality development outcomes.
  • Identify and troubleshoot formulation and process challenges, working with the wider technical team to implement effective solutions and improvements.
  • Maintain accurate, thorough documentation of experiments, development activities, and results in line with internal procedures and relevant regulatory expectations.
  • Contribute to internal and external technology transfer activities, including travel where required, to support the successful progression of the technology.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Practical pharmaceutical development experience is essential, particularly in drug delivery technologies involving hydrogels, polymer-based formulations, or particle-based systems.
  • A strong understanding of formulation and process development, including the identification and optimisation of critical quality attributes (CQAs) and critical process parameters (CPPs).
  • Experience in polymer synthesis, material modification, and the development of drug delivery formulations.
  • The ability to work independently, take ownership of technical activities, and deliver results in a fast-paced development environment.
  • Familiarity with Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP), GMP-equivalent standards, and pharmaceutical regulatory requirements would be an advantage.
  • Experience working collaboratively across multidisciplinary and cross-functional teams is desirable.
  • Previous involvement in intellectual property (IP) submissions, invention disclosures, or related activities would be beneficial.
