Manufacturing Technician

Abbott Diabetes Care – Kilkenny IDA Ireland Kilkenny Business & Technology Park, Kilkenny R95 A02A

Build Your Future. Improve Lives. Grow with Abbott.

At Abbott, we don’t just manufacture products — we change lives.

Our Kilkenny facility is one of the most advanced manufacturing sites in Europe, producing FreeStyle glucose monitoring technology that supports millions of people living with diabetes worldwide. As we continue to grow, we’re building a team of Manufacturing Technicians at multiple experience levels — offering secure careers, real progression, and meaningful work from day one.

The Role

We are recruiting Manufacturing Technicians at various experience levels to join our brand‑new Kilkenny site. This is a hands‑on technical role where you’ll play a critical role in ensuring our automated production lines run safely, efficiently, and reliably. You’ll work with modern machinery, structured maintenance systems, and cross‑functional teams, with strong opportunities for skill development and career progression in a growing operation.

What You’ll Do

  • Perform preventative maintenance, fault diagnosis, and repairs on production equipment
  • Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic systems
  • Monitor machine performance and support OEE and yield targets
  • Use data and CMMS systems to identify issues and drive improvements
  • Support or lead continuous improvement and root cause analysis activities
  • Assist with equipment installation, validation, and upgrades
  • Train and support operators on production equipment
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with engineering, quality, and operations teams
  • Maintain clear documentation, reporting, and compliance standards

Experience Levels – Where You Fit

We are hiring across two levels, recognising both potential and proven experience:

Level A

You are early in your career or transitioning into manufacturing.

  • Foundational mechanical/electrical knowledge (Level 6+)
  • Some hands-on experience (education, apprenticeship, or early role)
  • Basic troubleshooting skills with a willingness to learn
  • Works best with guidance and structured support
  • Strong attitude, curiosity, and motivation to grow

We hire Level A for potential — and invest in your development.

Level B

You bring strong, proven experience in a manufacturing environment.

  • Significant hands-on experience with automated equipment
  • Confident in independent troubleshooting and fault finding
  • Experience in regulated or high-volume manufacturing (advantageous)
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings and drive root cause analysis
  • Comfortable working autonomously and leading tasks
  • Strong communicator, able to train others and drive improvements

We hire Level B for performance — you’ll hit the ground running and make a difference immediately.

What You’ll Bring

  • Level 6 qualification (or higher) in a technical/engineering discipline
  • Mechanical and/or electrical skillset
  • Problem-solving mindset with strong troubleshooting ability
  • Interest or experience in automation and manufacturing
  • A safety-first, quality-driven approach
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills
  • Experience with CMMS or data-driven systems (advantageous)

Your Career at Abbott

This isn’t just a job — it’s a career pathway.

At Abbott Kilkenny, you’ll have the opportunity to:

  • Progress from technician to senior or specialist roles
  • Build expertise in automation, maintenance, and engineering
  • Contribute to a growing site with long-term opportunities

Join Us

If you’re looking for:

  • A secure role in a global healthcare leader
  • The opportunity to grow and develop
  • Work with real purpose and impact

…then Abbott Kilkenny is the place for you.
