As Director of Medical Society Partnerships & Congresses, you will play a pivotal role in driving strategic collaborations with leading medical societies and building trusted partnerships to deliver impact in our core therapeutic areas. This is a highly visible opportunity to influence how innovative therapies are understood and adopted worldwide, working across our Biomedical Research, Development, Medical and Commercial teams. You’ll operate at the heart of our Scientific Communications strategy - creating impactful partnerships, shaping congress presence and delivering measurable value for patients, healthcare professionals and the broader healthcare ecosystem.

About the Role
Responsibilities:
- Lead the medical society engagement strategy aligned with therapeutic area priorities and priority assets.
- Develop engagement plans that advance shared scientific and medical objectives while strengthening long-term external relationships and organisational trust.
- Develop and sustain strategic relationships with key global medical societies, serving as a primary point of contact and building trusted partnerships through consistent, strategic and value-driven engagement.
- Partner cross-functionally with R&D, Medical, and Commercial teams to ensure medical society engagement plans are integrated, strategically prioritised and aligned to asset needs.
- Monitor the external landscape, including society priorities, stakeholder needs, evolving guidelines and competitor activity, to inform partnership strategy and identify new opportunities for engagement.
- Establish success measures and performance indicators to assess the impact of medical society partnerships, including for Novartis, the assets, HCPs, and patients.
- Provide strategic oversight of congress planning, ensuring congress sponsored activities support broader medical society partnership goals and scientific communication priorities.
- Work with Congress Operations and cross-functional partners to support effective execution of congress-related activities, with a focus on strategic direction, objective-setting and integration with partnership plans.
- Drive innovation and operational excellence in external engagement, ensuring all partnership and congress activities comply with legal, regulatory and internal governance requirements.
Essential for the role:
- Advanced degree (e.g. MD, PharmD, PhD) or equivalent in life sciences or healthcare.
- 7+ years experience in pharmaceutical industry or healthcare related environment.
- Significant experience within Medical Affairs or a closely related function.
- Proven ability to build and manage external partnerships with medical societies or healthcare organisations.
- Demonstrated experience in strategic planning and execution across product or asset lifecycle.
- Strong experience working across functions in a complex, matrixed organisation, with excellent stakeholder management skills and ability to influence senior leaders globally.
- Deep understanding of ethical, legal and compliance requirements within the pharmaceutical industry.
- Strong communication skills with ability to translate complex scientific information into clear messaging.
