Full job description
Medical Social Worker
Applications are invited to apply for the position of Basic Grade Medical Social Worker.
This is a part time position covering Wednesday, Thursday & Friday, 21 hours per week.
Overview of the role:
- Provide counselling, information and support as appropriate to referred patients and their families.
- Help with practical problems and refer to appropriate agencies, advocating on behalf of patient as needed. This would include helping plan long term care and implementing arrangements as appropriate.
- Liaise and cooperate with medical, nursing and other disciplines as appropriate concerning patients and be involved in the provision of a holistic approach to patient care.
- Attend multidisciplinary patient case conferences as required
- Provide education to other hospital staff on the role of the social worker and the appropriate referral of patients to the service.
Requirements:
- To possess social work qualification approved by Social Workers Registration Board or be NQSW qualified.
- A minimum of two years post-qualifying experience is desirable.
- Hospital experience preferable but not essential
- Excellent interpersonal and communications skills
- Awareness and sensitivity towards patient needs.
