Job Objectives
The primary objective of the Staff Nurse – General is to provide safe, high-quality and person-centred nursing care to the Residents in Nua Healthcare Services.
The Staff Nurse will:
- Provide and coordinate person-centred nursing care based on individual needs.
- Assess, plan, implement and review individual healthcare plans.
- Safely administer and manage medications in line with professional and organisational standards.
- Provide appropriate wound care and monitor healing, escalating concerns where required.
- Monitor and respond to changes in health and wellbeing, escalating concerns appropriately.
- Liaise with GPs, healthcare professionals, families and the multidisciplinary team to ensure continuity of care.
- Maintain accurate clinical records and relevant healthcare documentation.
- Promote health, wellbeing, independence, dignity and quality of life.
- Support individuals to attend healthcare appointments and follow through on recommendations.
- Maintain professional standards and contribute to a safe, positive and supportive residential environment.
- Maintain strict confidentiality in relation to staff and patients.
The above list is not exhaustive, and the Registered General Nurse may be required to undertake other duties and responsibilities appropriate to the role, their professional scope of practice and the needs of the residents.
Skills Requirement
Essential Criteria
- Registered General Nurse (RGN) qualification.
- Current registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI).
- Post-registration nursing experience.
- Experience working within a residential care, community or similar healthcare setting.
- Experience in wound assessment, wound management and dressing changes.
- Understanding of person-centred care and promoting dignity, choice, independence and quality of life.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Good organisational skills, with the ability to manage and prioritise workload effectively.
Desirable Criteria
- Minimum of 3 years’ post-registration nursing experience.
- Experience working with individuals with complex healthcare needs.
- Experience in the assessment and management of lower-limb wounds in people with peripheral vascular disease and/or diabetes.
- Knowledge of infection recognition, including cellulitis, deep infection, osteomyelitis and systemic deterioration/sepsis, and recognising when medical review or antibiotic treatment may be required.
- Experience in medication management and health promotion.
- Experience developing, implementing and reviewing individual healthcare plans.
- Experience working collaboratively with families, GPs and other healthcare professionals.
- Experience in areas such as epilepsy, diabetes, nutrition, PEG feeding or other relevant healthcare needs.
Knowledge & Skills
- Knowledge of standards, legislation and best practice relevant to general nursing.
- Knowledge of safe medication management and administration.
- Knowledge of wound care and infection prevention and control.
- Ability to accurately complete and maintain clinical and healthcare documentation.
- Good understanding of safeguarding and risk management.
- Commitment to maintaining professional competence and continuing professional development.
- Good IT and record-keeping skills.
