What is the opportunity?

Join New Ireland Assurance, one of Ireland's leading life assurance companies, and play an important role in helping customers protect what matters most. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Medical Underwriter to join a collaborative and supportive team while continuing to develop your expertise within the life insurance industry.

You will assess insurance applications, make risk based underwriting decisions within agreed authority limits, and work closely with colleagues, brokers, and customers to deliver fair, timely, and customer focused outcomes.

In this role, you will:

  • Assess life insurance applications and make underwriting decisions that balance customer needs, commercial considerations, and risk appetite.
  • Communicate underwriting requirements and decisions clearly and professionally to colleagues, brokers, and customers through both written and verbal channels.
  • Take ownership of applications, queries, appeals, and complaints, ensuring cases are managed efficiently and escalated when appropriate.
  • Build strong relationships with key stakeholders while contributing to service excellence, customer satisfaction, and operational performance targets.
  • Support continuous improvement by identifying opportunities to enhance underwriting processes, sharing knowledge, and providing coaching and feedback to junior underwriters.

What will make you stand out?

You will be an experienced Medical Underwriter who enjoys working in a busy, team focused environment. You are comfortable managing a varied workload, making informed decisions, and building trusted relationships with a range of stakeholders.

You will bring strong problem solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to communicate complex information in a clear and practical way. A customer focused approach, good organisational skills, and the ability to prioritise effectively will help you succeed in this role.

Experience with the following will help you stand out but is not required to apply for this role:

  • Medical underwriting experience (at least 3 years) within the life assurance industry.
  • A strong record of underwriting decision making and applying underwriting principles in practice.
  • Experience managing relationships with brokers and internal stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of the Irish life insurance market.
  • Experience coaching and supporting less experienced underwriters.

Essential qualifications

Diploma in Life & Disability Underwriting (DLDU) would be beneficial.
