Job Description
Job Title: General Medical Registar
Reporting to: Administratively accountable to the Medical Manpower Manager
Clinically and professionally responsible to the attending Consultant
Job Summary: Act under the supervision of the Consultant in the provision of a medical service to patients and support the Consultants in their duties. The fundamental philosophy guiding this position is to promote and preserve the Bon Secours Mission, Values and Ethos.
Responsibilities:
- The primary responsibility is to provide direct care for patients including taking history and physical examinations, ordering image investigations, coordinating care with the inpatient teams and organising follow up for patients
- Completing the inpatient drug Kardex and hospital admission note is expected so as to avoid duplication
- On rare occasions the registrar may be asked to assist in the admission of patients from direct ward referral and / or day case patients and / or patients transferred from other hospitals when inpatient admitting teams are overwhelmed. This will be at the discretion of the attending Consultant in GIM and dependent on workload
- Assess, review, verify and document findings for patients as requested by the attending Consultant and / or Nursing Staff. Document review findings in clinical notes in a timely and legible manner
- Provide Clinical Cover for procedures undertaken in departments
- Prescribe medications for patients as required e.g., as directed by Consultant and/or, following a Consultant review or Nursing staff
- Give ongoing assistance and support to GIM Consultants in the care of patients and give instant feedback on any issues or problems requiring attention.
- Assist in the education of colleagues and Nursing staff
- Participate in the NCHD On Call Rota Participate and contribute to the M&M meeting
- Respond to emergency situations in accordance with protocol
- Maintain effective liaison with all Hospital staff and NCHD colleagues to ensure effective teamwork and safe outcomes
- Respond to any Adverse Occurrences e.g., injuries, falls, sudden illnesses etc, suffered by patients, visitors or staff
- Actively engage with medical education of all medical students and Physician Associate students attending the hospital
- Undertake associated administrative duties e.g., issue of sickness certificates etc
- Contribute to quality improvement and risk management initiatives wherever possible
- Act and behave professionally and perform one’s duties in a manner that optimises patient care and protects and enhances the reputation and mission of Bon Secours Hospital
- Adhere to hospital policies and procedures e.g., blood guidelines, infection control, JCI policies, work hours and overtime.
- Implement quality standards ensuring that a quality service is provided at all times.
- Comply with Health and Safety Regulations, ensuring safe working practices and a safe working environment.
- Undertake any other duties that may reasonably be required.
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS
- Possess a Medical Degree
- Minimum of 5 years post qualification experience
- Possess current full Medical Council Registration
ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE
- Have sufficient medical, diagnostic and management experience and capability to fulfil functions of the post
ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
- Have excellent supervisory, interpersonal and communication skills and a high capacity for responsibility and individual initiative
- Be able to demonstrate adoptability to the rapid changes taking place in the Hospital
- Possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills – working knowledge of the English language
