Full job description

Technical Service Manager / Workshop Controller

Cooney Motors — Boyle, Co. Roscommon
Full-time, permanent position
Excellent package available for the right candidate, including productivity and performance-related bonus

Cooney Motors is a long-established Nissan Main Dealer, CVRT Light Commercial Test Centre and full-service motor business based in Boyle, Co. Roscommon.

We are seeking to appoint a Technical Service Manager / Workshop Controller to lead the day-to-day control and performance of our service department and workshop.

This is a key role within the business and may suit an experienced Workshop Controller, Service Manager, Master Technician, Diagnostic Technician or Senior Technician who is ready to move into a leadership position.

About the Role

This is not a purely front-of-house service role. The successful candidate will be central to the running of the workshop and wider aftersales operation.

You will manage job flow, technician productivity, WIP, customer communication standards, warranty process discipline, VHC follow-up and overall service department performance.

The right person will be technically confident, organised, commercially aware and capable of leading people while maintaining high standards of customer service and workshop control.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the daily running of the service department and workshop.
  • Control workshop loading, job allocation and daily job flow.
  • Monitor technician productivity, efficiency and clocking discipline.
  • Take ownership of WIP, aged jobs and work delays.
  • Review job cards to ensure clear, accurate and complete write-ups.
  • Support technicians with technical decisions, diagnostic direction and repair planning.
  • Ensure customers are kept properly updated throughout the repair process.
  • Work closely with the service advisor team on bookings, updates, estimates and invoicing.
  • Drive VHC completion, quotation follow-up and conversion.
  • Ensure warranty jobs are properly documented, supported and processed.
  • Monitor comebacks, rework and repeat repair issues.
  • Work closely with the Parts Department to reduce delays and improve workflow.
  • Maintain high standards of process discipline, housekeeping and accountability.
  • Review service KPIs and report performance to the Dealer Principal.

The Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will have strong motor trade experience and a good understanding of how a busy workshop and service department should operate.

A technical background would be a major advantage, particularly for someone coming from a Master Technician, Diagnostic Technician, Senior Technician or Workshop Controller role.

You do not need to be on the tools full-time, but you must be technically confident, comfortable leading staff, able to control workflow and capable of making good decisions under pressure.

Required Skills and Experience

  • Previous motor trade aftersales, workshop control or technical experience.
  • Strong understanding of workshop operations and vehicle repair processes.
  • Good technical knowledge and diagnostic understanding.
  • Ability to manage technicians, workflow and daily priorities.
  • Strong communication skills with customers, staff and suppliers.
  • Ability to manage WIP, job flow and service department performance.
  • Commercial awareness around labour sales, efficiency and productivity.
  • Strong organisational and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to maintain high standards around job cards, warranty evidence and process control.
  • Main dealer experience would be an advantage.
  • Warranty process experience would be an advantage.
  • Experience with DMS systems such as Pinewood would be beneficial.

What We Offer

  • A key leadership role in a respected, long-established motor business.
  • Opportunity to take ownership of a busy workshop and service department.
  • Support from the Dealer Principal and wider management team.
  • Excellent package available for the right candidate.
  • Productivity and performance-related bonus linked to agreed service department KPIs.
  • Main dealer training and development opportunities.
  • Long-term career opportunity for the right person.
  • Relocation support may be considered for an exceptional candidate.

Package

An excellent salary package is available for the right candidate, including a productivity and performance-related bonus structure linked to agreed service department KPIs.

A higher overall package may be considered for an exceptional candidate with proven service management, workshop control and technical leadership experience.

How to Apply

Please apply with your CV and a short cover note outlining your relevant motor trade, workshop control, service management or technical experience.

All applications and enquiries will be treated in confidence.
