Full job description

The Painter Decorator will carry out internal and external painting and decorating across live healthcare premises, keeping disruption to patients, staff and services to a minimum.

KEY DUTIES

  • Prepare surfaces: filling, sanding, stripping and priming walls, ceilings, doors and woodwork
  • Apply paints, specialist coatings (including anti-microbial and wipe-clean finishes) and wallcoverings
  • Work in occupied wards, clinics and corridors, following infection prevention and control (IPC) procedures
  • Set up and maintain safe work areas, signage and dust/odour control
  • Follow site permits, risk assessments and method statements (RAMS)
  • Keep work areas clean and tidy, and dispose of waste correctly
  • Report defects, damp or damage found during works to the supervisor

QUALIFICATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Candidates must provide copies of:

  • QQI Level 6 Advanced Craft Certificate in Painting & Decorating (SOLAS/FÁS apprenticeship), or equivalent recognised trade qualification
  • Valid Safe Pass card
  • Manual Handling certificate
  • Working at Height and/or IPAF / PASMA certificate (for MEWPs and mobile towers)
  • Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) training, or willingness to complete HSeLanD modules before start
  • Desirable: CSCS card, Asbestos Awareness, Fire Safety Awareness

EXPERIENCE

Candidates must submit a CV detailing previous painter decorator roles, with particular emphasis on:

  • Work in hospitals, healthcare facilities or other HSE premises
  • Public sector environments (schools, local authority, OPW or government buildings)
  • Working in live, occupied buildings with minimal disruption
  • Applying specialist healthcare coatings and following IPC protocols

Minimum 3 years' post-qualification experience preferred. Two recent, verifiable references required.

Each candidate submission must include confirmation of:

☐ Right to work in Ireland (EU/EEA passport, Stamp 4, or valid employment permit)

☐ Garda Vetting completed, or consent to complete it via the HSE e-Vetting process before start

☐ Occupational health clearance, including vaccination status where required

☐ Two satisfactory references

☐ Copies of all trade certificates and Safe Pass
