PURPOSE OF THE POST

The Medical/Clinical Equipment Support Technician will provide technical support within the Facilities Department for the safe, reliable and compliant management of medical and clinical equipment and the Medical Gas Pipeline System (MGPS) and associated equipment across the Peamount Healthcare campus.

The post holder will support the management of medical and clinical equipment throughout its lifecycle, including procurement, commissioning, asset management, planned preventative maintenance (PPM), reactive maintenance, fault diagnosis, repair, replacement, decommissioning and disposal, ensuring equipment remains safe, compliant and available to support the delivery of high-quality patient care.

Working in collaboration with Clinical Services, Procurement, Quality, Infection Prevention and Control, Health & Safety, contractors, manufacturers and other stakeholders, the post holder will coordinate maintenance activities, maintain accurate asset and technical records, monitor equipment performance and contribute to lifecycle planning, regulatory compliance and continuous service improvement.

The post holder will act as the primary technical liaison between the Facilities Department, clinical users, contractors and equipment manufacturers, providing first-line technical support within the limits of their competence and ensuring specialist Clinical Engineering support, manufacturer intervention or statutory certification requirements are identified and escalated appropriately.

Subject to the organisation's governance arrangements and competency requirements, the post holder will be trained and formally appointed as a Medical Gas Authorised Person (AP) and undertake the operational and maintenance responsibilities associated with the Medical Gas Pipeline System (MGPS) in accordance with relevant legislation, standards and local procedures.

The role requires participation in the Facilities Department out-of-hours/on-call rota, responding to medical equipment, MGPS and other Facilities-related emergencies within the post holder's delegated authority and escalating matters requiring specialist or statutory intervention as appropriate.

POINT ON SALARY SCALE

New appointees coming from the private sector will be placed on the minimum point of the scale (*exceptions may apply for the below grades, provided proof of recognised service is submitted by VOS)

  • *Clinical and Therapy Grades and Staff Nurses*: Incremental credit may be applied for recognised relevant service in Ireland and abroad (Department of Health Circular 2/2011) in the Civil Service, local authorities, public service, health service and other public service bodies and statutory agencies.
