About Cognitive Support

Cognitive Support is a specialist neurodevelopmental service providing high-quality autism and ADHD assessments for children and young people across Ireland.

Our assessments follow best practice clinical guidelines including NICE and PSI recommendations and are delivered by a multidisciplinary team including psychologists, speech and language therapists, and occupational therapists.

Due to significant national demand and continued expansion of our services, we are recruiting Clinical, Educational and Counselling Psychologists to join our growing team.

The Role

Psychologists will be responsible for conducting comprehensive autism assessments for children and adolescents as part of a multidisciplinary diagnostic pathway.

You will contribute your clinical expertise to ensure robust, evidence-based diagnostic outcomes and high-quality reports for families.

Assessments typically involve:

  • Developmental history interviews (e.g. ADI-R)
  • Participation in multidisciplinary diagnostic discussions
  • Clinical formulation and diagnostic decision making
  • Writing detailed diagnostic reports and recommendations for families and schools

Psychologists work alongside Speech and Language Therapists and Occupational Therapists who contribute to the multidisciplinary assessment process.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct autism diagnostic assessments for children and young people
  • Carry out structured developmental history interviews (ADI-R or equivalent)
  • Contribute to multidisciplinary diagnostic formulation meetings
  • Produce high quality, clinically robust diagnostic reports
  • Provide recommendations for education, therapy and post-diagnostic support
  • Ensure assessments comply with PSI guidelines and best practice standards
  • Maintain accurate clinical records and documentation
  • Participate in clinical supervision and peer review

Requirements

Applicants must have:

  • A recognised Doctorate or Postgraduate Qualification in Psychology (Clinical, Educational or Counselling)
  • Current PSI registration (Psychological Society of Ireland)
  • Minimum 3 years experience assessing children
  • Experience in autism assessment and neurodevelopmental conditions
  • Strong report writing and diagnostic formulation skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team

Desirable:

  • Experience with ADI-R and/or ADOS-2 assessments
  • Experience working with children with complex neurodevelopmental needs
