As a Senior Expert in Rapid Prototyping, you will play a pivotal role in transforming how drug discovery is accelerated by designing and deploying advanced generative artificial intelligence and agentic systems. Working at the intersection of science and technology, you will rapidly translate emerging artificial intelligence capabilities into impactful, real-world solutions that empower researchers, enhance decision-making, and ultimately help bring transformative therapies to patients faster.
About the Role
Key Responsibilities
- Design and deploy generative artificial intelligence solutions supporting drug discovery and biomedical research workflows
- Build rapid prototypes and scalable applications combining foundation models, retrieval systems, and workflow orchestration
- Develop production-ready large language model applications with robust context handling, tool integration, and monitoring
- Translate emerging generative artificial intelligence and agentic approaches into practical, reusable solutions
- Apply engineering best practices including testing, benchmarking, version control, and lifecycle management
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver impactful artificial intelligence solutions aligned with research priorities
- Identify opportunities to enhance scientist productivity using artificial intelligence assistants and workflow automation
- Contribute to architecture, scalability, security, and reliability of artificial intelligence-powered systems
- Share best practices, reusable components, and technical guidance across teams working on artificial intelligence applications
- Evaluate emerging tools, frameworks, and technologies to advance generative artificial intelligence capabilities
Essential Requirements
- 5+ years of experience building and deploying artificial intelligence or machine learning systems in production
- 2+ years of hands-on experience designing large language model applications including retrieval augmented generation and tool integration
- Strong proficiency in Python and experience developing scalable services, application programming interfaces, and reusable libraries
- Experience delivering end-to-end artificial intelligence solutions including prompt design, evaluation, and monitoring
- Familiarity with generative artificial intelligence frameworks such as LangChain, LangGraph, or similar ecosystems
- Experience applying modern software engineering practices including testing, code reviews, version control, and continuous integration
- Understanding of evaluation metrics for generative artificial intelligence systems including quality, reliability, and cost considerations
- Awareness of security, governance, and responsible artificial intelligence practices in enterprise environments
Desirable Requirements
- Experience in drug discovery, computational biology, or biomedical research environments
- Publications, patents, or open-source contributions in artificial intelligence or computational sciences

Expected Annual Base Salary Range for role:
- Dublin: 63,490.00 - 117,910.00 EUR Annual.
The salary offered is determined based on gender-neutral objectives, such as relevant skills, competencies and experience in accordance with the Novartis pay setting policy and upon joining Novartis will be reviewed periodically.
In addition to your base salary, you may be eligible for a performance-based bonus depending on certain performance parameters. Further details will be provided during the application process.
