Job Overview

The Graduate Quantity Surveyor will provide commercial and quantity surveying support to the Senior Quantity Surveyor and wider management team. This is an entry-level position designed for a graduate looking to develop a career in Quantity Surveying.

The role will support the financial and commercial management of projects, including measurement, cost control, procurement, subcontractor management, contract administration and project reporting.

Full training will be provided to the successful candidate. You will work closely with our experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor and management and receive practical, on-the-job training across all areas of Quantity Surveying. This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated graduate to develop their skills and build a long-term career within the company.

Key Responsibilities

• Measurement & Take-offs: Assist with measuring quantities from drawings and developing an understanding of construction measurement and take-off procedures.
• Cost Tracking: Assist in monitoring live project costs, invoices, changes and monthly expenditure against budgets.
• Rates Analysis: Assist in gathering market data and material prices to support cost benchmarking and the preparation of competitive rates.
• Procurement/Subcontractor Management: Assist with issuing information to potential suppliers/subcontractors, following up on quotations and preparing comparison sheets.
• Project Coordination: Support communication between clients, subcontractors, suppliers and internal teams to ensure commercial information is communicated accurately and efficiently.
• Contract Administration: Assist with the administration of project contracts, ensuring commercial records, correspondence, notices and supporting documentation are maintained accurately.
• Document Control: Maintain organised records of drawings, specifications, quotations, valuations, invoices and other commercial documents.
• Commercial Risks: Assist the Senior QS in identifying potential commercial risks, discrepancies and opportunities, escalating issues where appropriate.
• Other Duties: Undertake any other reasonable duties and responsibilities that may be required to fulfil the requirements of the role.

Essential Skills & Requirements

• A degree or relevant third-level qualification in Quantity Surveying, Construction Economics, Construction Management or a related discipline.
• An ability or willingness to learn how to prepare, read and understand construction drawings, specifications and commercial documentation.
• Software Proficiency: A basic understanding of digital measurement and take-off software such as Bluebeam, Revit, or similar industry-standard programs.
• Good organisational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage priorities and meet deadlines.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build effective working relationships with clients, subcontractors, suppliers and management.
• An interest in construction costs, materials, quantities and commercial principles.
• Strong numerical and analytical skills with excellent attention to detail.
• Good IT skills, particularly Microsoft Office and Excel.
• Full driving licence is not necessary but is an advantage for potential site visits.
• Suitable for a recent graduate looking to begin a career in Quantity Surveying. Previous experience is not essential as full training will be provided.
