Speech and Language Therapist – Adult rehab

Medforce are looking for a Speech and Language Therapist to provide high-quality speech and language therapy (SLT) services as part of the multidisciplinary rehabilitation team at a Community Hospital with a focus on assessment, diagnosis, and management of communication and swallowing disorders in adult and older populations. I will accept applications from Staff or Senior Grade.

Responsibilities Speech and Language Therapist – Adult rehab

  • Provide assessment, diagnosis, and treatment to adults with communication and/or swallowing disorders, including dysphagia.
  • Develop individualized care plans and deliver evidence-based interventions aligned with patient goals.
  • Monitor patient progress and update care plans accordingly.
  • Support safe oral intake through dysphagia assessment and management, including training of staff and caregivers in safe feeding practices.
  • Participate actively in multidisciplinary team meetings, contributing specialist knowledge to holistic care planning.
  • Work collaboratively with physiotherapists, occupational therapists, dietitians, nursing staff, social workers, psychologists, and other MDT colleagues to facilitate rehabilitation goals.
  • Provide patient and family education and training to support communication and swallowing outcomes post-discharge.
  • Advocate for patient-centred care and assist in discharge planning.
  • Maintain high standards of documentation in line with professional and HSE guidelines.
  • Participate in clinical audit, quality improvement initiatives, and research activities as appropriate.
  • Take responsibility for supervising and teaching assigned SLT students (if senior post).
  • Engage in continuous professional development (CPD) to maintain up-to-date clinical knowledge.
  • Contribute to the ongoing development of the SLT service within CHOA.
  • Participate in the development of clinical policies, procedures, and pathways.
  • Lead or support specialist interest groups or working groups (senior role).

Responsibilities Speech and Language Therapist – Adult rehab

  • BSc/MSc in Speech & Language Therapy or equivalent.
  • CORU registration as a Speech and Language Therapist.
  • Experience working with adults with communication and swallowing difficulties (minimum 3 years for senior post).
  • Up-to-date certification in dysphagia management (for senior grade desirable).
