Position: Operations Engineer

We are currently seeking applications from suitably experienced and qualified applicants to fill the position of operations engineer for an operational portfolio of wind and solar farms. The role is based in our office in Dublin 18 but includes occasional travel to sites all over Ireland and offers some scope to work from home. It will suit applicants from a variety of engineering backgrounds, with a strong interest in renewable energy. Experience of wind farm, solar farm, electrical or mechanical maintenance is desirable. We are looking for an all-rounder who is willing to contribute to the many and varied aspects of managing renewable energy sites.

Job Summary

This is a broad and varied role, the keys aspects of which are as follows:

  • Asset management: Monitoring, analysing, reporting on and optimising the performance of wind and solar farms.
  • Managing maintenance contractors to ensure that the upkeep of wind and solar farm assets is carried out to the highest standards.
  • Assisting with the wide variety of tasks involved in the operation of our sites.

Detailed Job Description

There will be scope for the successful applicant to get involved in many aspects of wind and solar farm management and maintenance. Duties will include:

Plant performance analysis and optimisation:

  • Monitoring wind and solar plant performance against contracted availability levels using a variety of software tools.
  • Cross checking of calculations provided by maintenance contractors.
  • Analysing wind turbine performance (e.g. power curve analysis).
  • Analysing solar plant performance (e.g. assessing performance ratios).
  • Making optimisation recommendations where appropriate.

Keeping site stakeholders informed though:

  • Technical reporting.
  • Regular meetings.

Management of maintenance contractors (electrical, mechanical and others).

Monitoring the provision of operational licenses and consents.

Fault investigation and follow up with maintenance contractors.

Communication with ESB Networks and Eirgrid (regarding outages, dispatch down and other operational issues).

Assisting the health and safety coordinator with HSE issues.

Assisting the finance team with commercial matters.

Assisting the construction team with operational lessons learned to inform the development of new sites.

Attending sites around Ireland as required for the purposes of:

  • Wind turbine or solar plant inspections.
  • Site inspections.
  • Site stakeholder meetings.

Assisting with warranty and insurance claims.

Assisting with ICT issues including site communication problems, the implementation of cybersecurity measures and the automation of repetitive processes using AI tools.

Assisting with the administration of Community Benefit Schemes proximate to operational sites.

Any other activities reasonably requested by management.

Qualifications, Knowledge and Skills

  • A relevant third level degree in engineering is an absolute requirement.
  • A minimum of 3 years post qualification experience in a relevant role is required.
  • A good understanding of the fundamentals of wind and solar plant is essential.
  • Strong data analysis skills are essential.
  • Ability to communicate fluently and effectively in both written and spoken English is essential.
  • A high level of information technology competence is required, including strong Microsoft Excel skills and familiarity with the use of AI tools for building efficient, automated processes.
  • A full driving licence is required and own car is preferred.

Pay: €45,000.00-€50,000.00 per year
