Walton Institute is looking to hire a Research Project & Laboratory Manager to work on national and EU projects linked to the research area of Quantum and Space and the Walton Quantum Facility. Walton Institute in SETU is a lead partner in the Research Ireland Rinn Quantum with ongoing projects in quantum and satellite communications as well as being a lead partner in the EuroQCI initiative which focuses on building a pan-European secure quantum communication infrastructure.
As quantum technology advances at pace, the power of quantum computing threatens the security of current cryptography encryption systems. We are adding a layer of security based on the fundamental laws of quantum physics to prevent cyberattacks and enable ultra-secure networks for government, finance, industry and innovative research. The ground- and satellite-based quantum communication infrastructure will use advanced quantum systems (quantum key distribution (QKD) and quantum entanglement distribution) integrated with classical optical communication networks.
The role will focus on managing administrative, contractual and financial aspects of the quantum divisions projects. This includes managing both large-scale publicly funded and private industry-funded projects. The position will involve directly supporting the Director of Research and researchers in the Quantum Division with managing funded and ongoing projects. Eligible applicants will have a MSc degree in Physics/ Computer Science/ Engineering with an interest in quantum technology. They are also required to have strong expertise and laboratory skills in physics / engineering.
If you are interested in working in a unique research organisation within the higher education sector, Walton Institute offers a culture that promotes autonomy and the pursuit of individual interests and ideas. We’re excited about opportunities that will create new technologies, advance existing ones and we will actively support the commercialisation process of these technologies. The position of Research Project & Laboratory Manager is a key position in managing the on-going applied and commercial research at Walton Institute.
