Full job description
Cox’s Steakhouse is seeking an experienced and reliable chef to join our busy kitchen team at Harbour Road, Dromod, Co. Leitrim.
The successful candidate will work as part of a professional kitchen team, preparing and presenting high-quality food in a fast-paced restaurant environment. This position would suit a capable chef who takes pride in consistency, organisation, cleanliness and maintaining high standards of food and service.
Key responsibilities
- Preparing, cooking and presenting dishes to the required standard
- Working efficiently across all sections of the kitchen as required
- Ensuring consistency in portion control, presentation and food quality
- Assisting with menu preparation, daily specials and service planning
- Monitoring stock levels and assisting with ordering and stock rotation
- Minimising food waste and controlling kitchen costs
- Maintaining high standards of hygiene, cleanliness and food safety
- Ensuring compliance with HACCP procedures and relevant food safety regulations
- Keeping workstations, equipment and storage areas clean and organised
- Working closely with kitchen and front-of-house staff during service
- Assisting with the training and supervision of junior kitchen staff where required
- Completing opening, closing and cleaning duties
- Supporting the wider team during busy periods, weekends and special events
Essential requirements
- A minimum of two years’ experience working as a chef in a busy kitchen environment
- Strong food preparation, cooking and presentation skills
- A good understanding of food hygiene, HACCP and safe kitchen practices
- Ability to work calmly and efficiently under pressure
- Strong organisational and time-management skills
- A reliable, punctual and professional approach
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
- Good communication skills
- Flexibility to work evenings, weekends and public holidays as required
- A genuine passion for producing high-quality food
Desirable
- Relevant culinary qualification
- Previous experience in a steakhouse, hotel, restaurant or high-volume food operation
- Experience working with fresh ingredients and preparing a range of dishes
- Knowledge of stock control, portion management and kitchen cost control
- Experience supervising or supporting junior kitchen staff
