We are currently looking for an enthusiastic and experienced Café Assistant Manager to join our team at Cork Airport, supporting the daily café and coffee operations and helping us deliver an exceptional customer experience.

This is a hands-on supervisory role, ideal for someone with a genuine passion for coffee, strong leadership skills and experience working in a busy café, hospitality or food service environment.

Working Hours: 40 hours per week, 5 days over 7.
Location: Cork Airport

Important: As this role may require airside access, the successful candidate must be able to successfully complete and provide the required 5-year background/security check for airport access.

Key Responsibilities:

Daily Operations

• Support the Café Manager with the day-to-day running of the café and coffee operations at Cork Airport.
• Assist in maintaining high standards of coffee preparation, presentation and customer service.
• Work closely with the Café Manager and KSG Head of Coffee to implement company coffee standards and best practices.
• Be hands-on during busy periods, supporting the barista team and ensuring efficient service.
• Assist with opening and closing procedures, ensuring all operational requirements are met.
• Support the smooth running of the coffee stations, ensuring equipment, stock and service areas are properly maintained.
• Help identify opportunities to improve operational efficiency and the overall customer experience.
• Assist with regular operational checks and inspections.

Finance & Commercial

• Support the Café Manager in achieving sales targets and controlling operational costs.
• Assist with stock control, ordering and minimising waste.
• Monitor product availability and ensure stock levels meet operational needs.
• Help identify opportunities to increase sales and improve profitability.
• Follow company cash-handling and financial procedures.

Health & Safety

• Ensure coffee equipment is used correctly and report any faults or maintenance requirements.
• Complete and monitor daily coffee and espresso check sheets.
• Support compliance with Health & Safety, food safety and hygiene procedures.
• Maintain excellent standards of cleanliness throughout the café.
• Ensure cleaning materials and equipment are available and used correctly.
• Follow COSHH requirements and PPE guidelines.
• Report any Health & Safety concerns to the Café Manager.

Customer Service

• Deliver excellent customer service and create a welcoming café environment.
• Ensure consistently high standards of coffee preparation, presentation and service.
• Support the team in providing a positive customer experience, particularly during busy periods.
• Handle customer queries, complaints and feedback professionally.
• Assist in maintaining attractive and well-presented coffee stations.
• Lead by example and encourage a customer-focused approach across the team.

Quality Assurance & Auditing

• Assist the Café Manager in maintaining audit-ready standards.
• Support compliance with internal and external audits, including KSG, airport/DAA requirements, Mystery Shopper and Environmental Health inspections.
• Complete daily operational checks and relevant documentation.
• Assist with implementing corrective actions following audits and inspections.
• Ensure company procedures and operational standards are followed consistently.

Training & Development

• Support the training and development of new and existing baristas.
• Provide hands-on coaching in coffee preparation, customer service and operational procedures.
• Encourage a positive team environment and a passion for delivering quality coffee.
• Assist with onboarding and training new team members.
• Ensure training records and relevant documentation are completed.
• Identify areas where team members may need additional support or training.

Team Supervision

• Assist the Café Manager with supervising and supporting the café team.
• Help coordinate daily tasks and ensure staff understand their responsibilities.
• Lead shifts when required, ensuring smooth operations and excellent customer service.
• Support new employees during their onboarding and integration into the team.
• Encourage teamwork, communication and a positive working environment.
• Provide feedback and coaching to team members.
• Report any staff concerns or operational issues to the Café Manager.
• Ensure employees follow company policies, procedures and standards.

Marketing & Visual Merchandising

• Maintain KSG brand standards and ensure the café is presented professionally.
• Support promotional activities and in-store marketing initiatives.
• Ensure coffee stations and display areas are clean, organised and visually appealing.
• Assist with implementing new products, promotions and coffee initiatives.
• Share ideas to improve the coffee offering and customer experience.

Qualifications & Experience

• Minimum 2 years' experience in a café, coffee shop, hospitality or food service environment.
• Previous experience as an Assistant Manager, Café Supervisor, Barista Supervisor, Team Leader or Senior Barista is highly desirable.
• Strong barista skills and good knowledge of coffee preparation and equipment.
• Previous experience supervising, training or supporting a team.
• Good understanding of food safety, hygiene and Health & Safety procedures.
• Experience with stock control, ordering and daily operational procedures.
• Good organisational and communication skills.
• Basic IT and administrative skills.
• Ability to work efficiently in a busy, fast-paced environment.
• A genuine passion for coffee and delivering excellent customer service.

Airport Security Requirement

Due to the nature of this position and the potential requirement for airside access at Cork Airport, candidates must be able to successfully complete the relevant airport security and background screening process.
