Full job description

Ballyrafter House is looking for a Chef / Kitchen Staff to join our team in Lismore, Co. Waterford

Why work for us?

  • You'll be joining a newly launching café, restaurant, and bar just opened, with the opportunity to help shape our new food offering.
  • Work in a beautiful 10-bedroom country house B&B nestled on a 15-acre farm with rolling green gardens and views of the Knockmealdowns.
  • Be part of a warm, welcoming team focused on providing a "stay with soul" and meaningful moments for our guests.
  • Work with high-quality, locally sourced ingredients to deliver a comforting, classic menu.
  • Be involved with our garden where we grow herbs & vegetables for our farm to table project.
  • Be involved in diverse food services — from our daily B&B breakfast to our new Thursday–Sunday lunch/dinner service, Sunday roasts, weddings, and private events.

Responsible for:

  • Preparing and executing our daily breakfast service to a high standard, including the Full Bally Breakfast, homemade porridge, and vegan options.
  • Delivering our new lunch and dinner menu featuring classics like the Ballyrafter House Burger, Fish & Chips, Steaks, and our signature Sunday Roast.
  • Managing the breakfast rush efficiently while maintaining consistent food quality and presentation.
  • Maintaining high standards for food storage, rotation, quality, and appearance across all services.
  • Ensuring compliance with applicable health codes and regulations (HACCP).
  • Establishing and following maintenance and cleaning schedules for kitchen equipment, storage, and work areas.
  • Assisting with food preparation for special events, weddings, and private house hires.

Requirements:

  • Strong breakfast skills are essential: You must be confident running a busy breakfast service, cooking eggs to order, and managing a hot grill.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of culinary techniques and practices, particularly with classic Irish and country house fare.
  • Experience working in a busy kitchen environment, managing both breakfast and evening services.
  • Understanding of health and sanitation laws; HACCP level 1 and 2 valid.
  • Excellent knife-handling skills and ability to work clean and tidy.
  • Positive attitude and good work ethic — we value these over years of experience.
  • Flexibility to work with different menus and event settings (from casual dining to weddings).
  • Have 2 work references we can check.
