Department Manager - Lingerie

McElhinneys is delighted to offer an exciting opportunity for an experienced Department Manager to join our award-winning Lingerie team.

This is a key role within our iconic department store in the heart of Donegal, supporting the delivery of an exceptional customer experience while leading and developing a high-performing retail team. We are looking for an experienced retail professional with a strong background in Sales, Customer Service and People Managing and leadership.

The successful candidate will be required to have a commercial mindset, excellent communication skills and a proven ability to achieve sales targets and KPIs while maintaining high operational standards.

Our Department Managers play an important role in creating a positive, energetic and customer-focused environment. Working closely with colleagues and senior management, you will take responsibility for the day-to-day performance and operation of your department, while contributing to the wider success of McElhinneys with creative concepts being put into actions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Drive sales targets and create success through effective daily planning and team collaboration.
  • Lead, motivate and develop team members to achieve and exceed individual and departmental goals.
  • Plan and organise staffing levels and schedules to ensure effective customer service and efficient department operations.
  • Maintain high standards of visual merchandising and presentation in line with brand and company expectations.
  • Ensure stock deliveries are processed efficiently, and stock management procedures are consistently followed.
  • Provide ongoing coaching, training and development in sales, customer service and product knowledge.
  • Maintain an active presence on the sales floor, ensuring appropriate staff coverage and providing support where required.
  • Ensure the team consistently delivers an exceptional customer experience.
  • Monitor departmental performance against agreed KPIs and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Generate and implement creative ideas that support commercial performance and align with the McElhinneys brand and culture.
  • Promote a safe, positive and inclusive working environment.
  • Ensure adherence to company policies, procedures, employment legislation and health and safety requirements.
  • Act as a role model, demonstrating professionalism, enthusiasm, accountability and strong leadership.
  • Communicate departmental performance, opportunities and challenges effectively to senior management.
  • Contribute positively to the wider management team and overall store objectives.

The Ideal Candidate:

The successful candidate will ideally have:

  • A proven track record in retail management, with at least 3 years' relevant experience, or equivalent qualifications and experience.
  • Experience within people management, with minimum of 1 year experience.
  • Strong commercial awareness and a proven ability to work towards and achieve KPIs and sales targets.
  • Excellent leadership and team management skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience in staff training, coaching and development.
  • Good knowledge of stock management, deliveries and retail operations.
  • An understanding of employment legislation, company policies and workplace regulations.
  • The ability to prioritise, organise and manage competing demands in a fast-paced environment.
  • The ability to work effectively as part of a management team while also demonstrating initiative and independence.
  • A positive, proactive and solutions-focused approach.
  • The ability to remain calm and effective under pressure.
  • A genuine passion for delivering excellent customer service.
