Full job description

Job Title: Anaesthetic Registrar

Location: Bon Secours Hospital, Cork

Hours: Full Time/Permanent

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

Under the general direction and control of the Head of HR, the Senior Anaesthetic Registrar will be responsible for the following:

Theatre

  • To assist the Consultant Anaesthetist in the delivery of care to patients Pre-operatively, Intra-operatively and Post-operatively.
  • Pre operative assessment of patients as directed by Consultant Anaesthetist.
  • Carry out clinical protocols as instructed.
  • Remaining with patients in o/t while the Consultant is with another patient or wishes to take a break.
  • Assess patients in the recovery room
  • Chart postoperative instructions re fluids regime and pain control.
  • Escort the patient post operatively to ICU, if intubated or unconscious.
  • Administer 1st dose IV antibiotics in the absence of Surgical SHO.
  • Assist with extubation of patients in the recovery room when required.

ICU/CCU/Ward Cover

  • Review patients a/m & p/m. In ICU/CCU and when
  • requested on wards.
  • Be available for the insertion of arterial and central lines where
  • they are clinically indicated.
  • Review CXR following insertion of central lines. Care of the ventilated patient. Prescribing of post operative analgesia in accordance with protocols of Consultant Anaesthetist. This will include review, prescription and administration of epidural medications. On call for emergency/cardiac arrest team. Assessment, planning and preparation of patients for PCA. Assist other NCHD’s and nurses with difficult IV cannulations where the standard protocols have failed.

Essential Requirements:

  • Medical Degree and Full Registration with the Irish Medical Council (IMC)
  • Anaesthetic Registrar experience.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills, with experience managing or leading clinical teams.
  • Strong clinical knowledge of oncology and familiarity with current evidence-based treatment protocols.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organisational skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced and demanding clinical environment.
  • Commitment to continuous professional development and lifelong learning.
