Full job description

About us: St James’s Hospital is Ireland’s largest acute academic teaching hospital and is based in Dublin’s south inner city. Our fundamental purpose is the delivery of health treatment, care and diagnosis as well as health promotion and preventative services at local, regional and national levels. Our academic partner is Trinity College Dublin.

Purpose of the role: This role was developed to support the expansion of the Research and Innovation (R&I) Office to facilitate growing numbers of applications to the office year-on-year.

The Research Impact Officer will provide administrative, operational, and project management support to the R&I Office at St James’s Hospital, playing a key role in the development, coordination, and governance of research and innovation activities across the Hospital. The post holder will support the delivery of high-quality research by ensuring compliance with Hospital, HSE, regulatory, and national standards, while contributing to the implementation of strategic research initiatives.

The post will also contribute to the strategic growth and visibility of research at St James’s through the development and implementation of activities that actively embed, support, and demonstrate research impact across the campus. Working closely with researchers, clinicians, and other stakeholders, the post holder will help plan for, capture, monitor, evaluate, and communicate the diverse impacts arising from research and innovation activities.

The Research Impact Officer will contribute to the development of effective mechanisms for defining and evidencing research impact, including the establishment and maintenance of a repository of research impact case studies aligned with the St James’s Hospital Research Strategy. The post holder will analyse and report on both quantitative and qualitative impact data, supporting the communication of research achievements and outcomes to internal and external audiences, thereby enhancing the profile and reputation of research and innovation at St James’s Hospital.

The post holder will also promote best practice in research governance and ethics and support researchers in demonstrating the clinical, academic, policy, economic, and societal benefits of their research, ensuring the value and impact of research undertaken at St James’s Hospital are effectively realised and communicated.
