TEMPORARY PART-TIME SUPPORT WORKER

CHILDRENS SERVICES, GALWAY

A panel may be formed as a result of this process from which subsequent Temporary & Locum Support Worker appointments within Childrens Services may be made over the next 6 months.

Location:

Assignment to the Early Childhood Services initially based in Knocknacarra, Co. Galway. The successful candidate will initially be assigned to working in one particular area of the service; however, the work location may change depending on service needs.

The Role:

Support Workers provide a key-working supportive role to children. This role comprises of two main elements. Firstly, the Support Worker is responsible for all aspects of personal care required by the individual child. This includes supporting children with their meals, personal hygiene and other related aspects of physical well-being, to the extent required by the individual. Secondly, a major focus of the Support Worker role is to assist and support the child through the development of Individual Plans and the achievement of associated outcomes, and critically, to support children in participating in the ordinary everyday life of the community through inclusive and creative thinking.

Team Leader or any other person designated by Manager

Qualifications/Experience/Skills:

Each candidate should possess the following qualifications and experience:

A minimum of 2 years experience working with children with an Intellectual disability and/or additional needs is desirable.

Current knowledge of present and future models of preschool services.

A full clean manual Driving Licence, which qualifies you to drive manual transmission vehicles on Irish Roads is an essential requirement.

Flexibility, team-working skills, patience and a sense of humour.

Fluency in verbal and written English is an essential requirement of this post and proficiency in I.T. skills.

Working Hours:

50 hours a fortnight based on a 5 day duty roster working Monday to Friday. The roster may vary in order to meet the childrens, needs and you will be expected to be flexible in regard to the hours of duty and any changes in rostering in the future. Starting and finishing times will be as notified to you by the person in charge.

The Corlann model of service is based on Personal Outcome Measures quality and person centred planning system requiring employees to be flexible in their working hours to provide a quality service delivery for each person supported.

Annual Leave:

23 days per annum (pro-rata for part-time)

Remuneration:

Department of Health Care Assistant (01/06/2026) salary scale - 34,881 x 11 increments - 47,624 (Max) pro rata per annum. Long Service Increment 48,434 pro-rata per annum is payable after 3 years on the maximum of the scale. Additional payments will be made for weekends, public holidays, sleep-ins and night-duty when worked.

Salary quoted is based on a 39 hour working week. The successful candidate will be granted incremental credit subject to satisfactory verification of previous public sector service.

Tenure:

The post is temporary, part time and pensionable linked on a specific purpose basis to a permanent staff members leave.

Probation:

A probationary period of nine months from the date of appointment applies to the post. The employment may be terminated at any time during the probationary period should the employer find that the appointee is unsuitable to continue employment. The probation period may be extended at the Employers discretion.
