Position Description
Telecommunications are transforming our lives in the way we live and work and are essential to the remote management of systems and assets. ESB's Networks Telecoms group has over one hundred staff providing the critical operational telecom networks needed to deliver the broadband and data circuits required to control the distribution, transmission and generation systems.

Networks Telecoms deliver this by operating and managing the largest private Telecoms Network in Ireland and are among a leading group of European utilities building our own private LTE Network. These initiatives are a critical part of our move to Smart Networks and the digitisation of ESB.

The Telecoms Service & Deployment (TSD) team based in ESB Networks Telecoms South East region, as part of Networks Telecoms, is responsible for the safe installation, support and maintenance of a range of telecoms technologies such as data traffic multiplexers, microwave radio links, SCADA UHF polling radio, Satellite, tele-protection schemes, IP networks, telephony services and other Telecoms equipment nationally.

The successful candidate will play a key role in the deployment, operation, maintenance and future growth of ESB’s national telecommunications network as a Telecoms Professional within the TSD Southeast team.

Key Responsibilities

Involvement in the deployment and integration of new infrastructure into ESB’s Telecoms network.
Responsible for ongoing support and maintenance of a wide variety of telecoms. equipment and infrastructure in ESB locations including utility Data Multiplexer systems, Radio systems, Telephony, Fibre Optic, IP Network and structured cabling systems.
Prioritisation of faults and urgent tasks, also ensuring tasks are updated and completed in a safe and timely manner.
Coordination/ management of 3rd party contractors and equipment partners.
Support, maintain and fault find DC Power and UPS standby power systems.
Implement and support SCADA and Protection systems used to control the Electricity network.
Partake in a strong safety, quality, and high-performance team culture.
Project management support for Telecommunications projects in ESB Networks, ESB Group and EirGrid.
Engagement and communication with various Networks Telecoms stakeholders in a profession manner.
Partake in training and development activities within the team or the wider networks telecoms business.
On-Call or Availability may be a feature of this role.

Experience & Qualifications
Essential

Either a 3rd Level qualification in an electrical/ telecommunication/ IT discipline or equivalent work experience from a trade background.
3 years relevant experience minimum.
Has a safety focused approach to work duties.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Good communication and organisational skills.
Accuracy, thoroughness, and attention to detail.
Adaptability and flexibility.
Full clean EU driving licence.

Desirable

Experience working on electrical systems.
Experience with preparation of safety documentation.
Experience with stakeholder engagement.
Awareness of telecommunications technologies.
Project Management experience.
Familiarity with HV environments.
On-Call or Availability experience.
Any Health & Safety qualifications.

Location
ESB Networks Leopardstown Road, but a flexible reporting location could be considered within the TSD South East region (Dublin, Arklow, Enniscorthy).

Smart Working at ESB is designed to make ‘in-person’ time together as purposeful as possible while also enabling the effective use of digital tools and hybrid arrangements to preserve our commitment to flexibility. The successful candidate may work flexibly within the jurisdiction where they have been employed, with attendance at the workplace for in-person collaboration at least two days per week. All Smart Working arrangements are subject to regular review based on the operational requirements of the role, the team, and the business.
