Full job description

Healthcare Assistant: Owned By Workers. Ireland’s First Carers Co-op

Location: Dun Laoghaire & Bray (Bray, Shankill, Blackrock, Dun Laoghaire)

Salary: €15.50 - €33 per hour (plus Sunday/Bank Holiday premiums) Pay Rise after 6 months. The bigger we get the higher the pay rate!

Why Ownership Matters

At The Great Care Co-op, we don’t just offer "jobs", we offer ownership. We are Ireland’s first worker-owned home care cooperative. This means we are 100% owned by you, the care worker.

Our mission is simple: Great Care through Great Jobs. When carers have a voice and a stake in the organisation, our clients receive better care.

"I’ve never looked back since joining the Co-op... I now have a voice. We support, encourage, and learn from each other. None of this was possible with my previous employers." Honora, Carer, Dalkey Hub

The Role: A Different Way of Working

Forget being a number in a massive agency. As part of a Neighbourhood Hub Care Team (6–12 colleagues), you will:

  • Care plan delivery: Collaborating with clients and their families to get great outcomes for our clients
  • Work locally: We prioritise minimum travel time and maximum client time.
  • Collaborate: Give feedback, solve problems together, and be supported by your "Buddy."
  • Have a Say: Supportive weekly care team meetings to ensure high standards of care and client wellbeing in your hub; vote on how the co-op is run at the AGM.

What We Offer (Pay & Benefits)

We reinvest all profits into our staff and care quality.

  • Starting Rates (Probation): €15.50 (Mon-Fri) | €17 (Sat) | €19 (Sun) | €31 (Bank Holiday).
  • Post-Probation (6 months): Rates increase up to €16.50 (Mon-Fri) | €18.10 (Sat) €20.23 (Sun) and €33 (BH).
  • Travel Support: Paid mileage, travel pay, and Leap cards provided.
  • Bonus & Security: Annual Christmas bonus (Co-op ethos) and Auto-enrollment Pension.
  • Culture: Quarterly care team nights out, we value fun as much as hard work!

Are You Our Next Member?

We are looking for 10 great carers who love caring and are kind, professional, and team-oriented. To apply, you must meet the following:

  • Qualifications: QQI Level 5 in Care Skills and Care of the Older Person (completed or in progress).
  • Experience: Previous paid experience as a care worker.
  • Location: You must live in or near Bray, Shankill, Blackrock, or Dun Laoghaire.
  • Transport: Being a driver/ biker/ scooter is highly preferred.
  • Availability: Able to work Monday to Friday and able to work one Saturday and Sunday every 4 weeks on rotation.
