At Agape Care, our mission is to provide safe, fun, and empowering short breaks for children with intellectual disabilities and complex needs, while offering essential respite support to their families.

We are seeking an experienced, high-performing, and compassionate Person in Charge (PIC) to lead our purpose-built children’s respite centre, The Coachyard, located in Prosperous, Co. Kildare. As the Person in Charge, you will hold operational, clinical, and regulatory responsibility for the centre, establishing a warm, home-away-from-home environment while driving HIQA excellence and person-centred values from the ground up.

Key Responsibilities

  • Leadership & Governance: Serve as the named Person in Charge under HIQA regulations (Health Act 2007), providing strong operational leadership and line management to a multi-disciplinary team of social care workers and support staff at The Coachyard.
  • Service Quality & HIQA Compliance: Ensure the centre fully complies with all HIQA National Standards, statutory requirements, child protection frameworks, and Agape Care policies.
  • Person-Centred Care: Oversee the development and implementation of comprehensive support plans, risk assessments, and positive behaviour support strategies tailored to each visiting child.
  • Financial & Resource Management: Manage roster planning, staff deployment, facility budgets, and day-to-day operations to ensure safe, effective staffing levels.
  • Family & Multi-Agency Liaison: Act as the primary contact for families, HSE representatives, and external care partners to ensure continuous, reliable communication.
  • Team Development: Drive staff supervision, performance reviews, training programs, and a culture of ongoing professional development.

Candidate Requirements & Qualifications1. Mandatory Qualifications

  • Education: A recognised QQI Level 8 degree in Social Care, Nursing (RNID/RCN), or a relevant Health/Social Care discipline.
  • Management Qualification: A Level 6 (or higher) management qualification in health/social care, business, or leadership (or commitment to complete within a specified timeframe).

2. Experience & Knowledge

  • Minimum 3 years’ post-qualification experience working in a disability or respite care setting.
  • At least 3 years’ experience in a leadership/supervisory role within a HIQA-regulated health or social care service.
  • Demonstrable in-depth knowledge of HIQA regulations, the Health Act 2007 (as amended), Safeguarding Guidance, and National Disability Policy.

3. Key Attributes

  • Full, clean Irish/EU Driving Licence.
  • Garda Vetting clearance.
  • Strong leadership, conflict resolution, organizational, and dynamic communication skills.
