Description

The Naval Service is the State's principal seagoing agency with a general responsibility to meet contingent and actual maritime defence requirements.

We are now accepting applications for Direct Entry Radio Radar Technicians. If you are passionate about technology, enjoy working as part of a team and seek a dynamic career in maritime operations, this is the role for you.

About the Role:

    As a Radio Radar Technician (RRT), you will maintain, repair and provide operational support for critical communications, radar and electronic navigation systems on Naval Service vessels and shore-based facilities.

    In this role, you'll play a vital part in ensuring the readiness and operational efficiency of naval systems, supporting vital operations at sea and on land.

    Leading Radio Radar Technicians (L/RRTs) will be trained to assume the responsibilities of Petty Officers (PO), managing the installation, operation, maintenance and repair of all onboard communication and navigation equipment.

    The role will also involve participating in emergency response and damage control duties, including firefighting and other exercises.

Eligibility Requirements:

    Educational/Professional Qualifications:

      B. Eng in Electronic Engineering (HETAC Level 7)

      B. Eng in Marine Electrotechnology (HETAC Level 7)

      B. Eng Ordinary Degree in Electronic Engineering – Military Communication Systems (Carlow)

      Or a national equivalent, subject to review and approval by the Naval Service

    Applicants must be 18 years of age and under 39 years of age: you will be required to provide proof of your age if you progress to the next stage of the competition.

    You must be at least 5ft 2in (157.48cm) in height. You will be measured during the selection process.

    No tattoos are to be visible above the collar while serving in the Defence Forces. This will be checked during the selection process and you may not proceed if you have visible tattoos above your collar.

    Applicants must meet the work permit eligibility criteria to serve as part of the Defence Forces. i.e. You must have a minimum of 5 years eligibility to stay in Ireland. You will be requested to provide proof of working permit on your application.

    You must meet medical, physical and security clearance standards, which will be assessed during the recruitment process.

Base Location across: Naval Base, Haulbowline Island, Cork.
