Job title: Environmental Health & Safety Specialist

Reports to: Quality & EH&S Director

Location: Dublin Airport

Overview of the role

Ensure the Company is fully compliant with Environmental, Health and Safety (EH&S) regulations. Develop policies and procedures, conduct audits, report writing, deliver training, liaise with internal and external stakeholders and external authorities. This is an opportunity for someone with EH&S experience and qualifications to grow and develop knowledge of the aviation industry.

The main duties and responsibilities include.

H&S General

  • Implementing and updating Health & Safety plans and procedures for the group as required.
  • Update and maintain Health and Safety procedures and a comprehensive Safety Statement for the Group in compliance with Regulatory requirement.
  • Carrying out risk assessments and considering how risks could be reduced.
  • Conduct H&S Investigations.
  • Advising Managers on Health & Safety initiatives relevant to their department.
  • Keeping up to date with new legislation and maintaining a working knowledge of all Health and Safety Authority (HSA) legislation and any developments that affect the industry.
  • Improve the health and safety culture, through training and awareness.

Environmental General

  • Managing all aspects of company's compliance in line with statutory regulations.
  • Monitoring all current and emerging EHS regulations and developing strategies/programs to ensure compliance.
  • Developing and maintaining the company's EHS management systems and internal policies & procedures in accordance with standards such as ISO14001.
  • Optimise and develop programs to reduce environmental, health and safety risks.
  • Developing an in depth understanding of technical processes and methods used throughout company operations.
  • Maintaining knowledge of the waste industry best practice and other standards in health and safety domains.
  • Build an in-depth understanding of EHS operational practices and implement new systems and processes in an accurate, timely and efficient way.
  • Evaluation of processes, systems and equipment for EHS impacts.
  • Developing with site management, measures including, risk assessments and health & safety plans to assure personnel safety on site.
  • Liaising with external authorities such as EPA, HAS, Local Authorities on EHS related matters and site visits, audits, accident investigations etc.
  • Represent the Company during outside Agency Audits/Inspections.
  • Any other relevant and reasonable duties associate with the role.

Education, knowledge and experience

  • Qualification in Safety, Engineering or related field.
  • Minimum 3 years of previous experience in a similar position.
  • Good working knowledge and experience of Irish environmental, health and safety regulations/legislation.
  • Experience with Environmental Management ISO 14001.

Competencies

  • Proficient in all Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Quality/EH&S systems.
  • Experience of report writing, auditing and conducting investigations.
  • Communication: excellent listening, written, verbal, presentation, training and interpersonal skills (ability to communicate effectively at all levels and with all stakeholders).
  • Ability to work independently while being part of a larger team.
  • A pragmatic approach, good analytical skills, problem solving skills and results oriented.
  • Excellent organization and time management; is organized and can prioritize business demands.
  • Attention to detail and high level of reporting accuracy regarding all aspects of the role.
  • Proactive, positive attitude, flexible and open to change, willingness to learn and take on additional responsibilities.
  • Exercises discretion and confidentiality at all times, in relation to all matters.
  • Fluency in English.
  • Flexibility and availability for travel if required.
