Join our team in Skibbereen NCT Test Centre, reporting to the Test Centre Manager. This role combines administrative expertise with frontline inspection duties, supporting the accurate and efficient processing of Vehicle Registration Tax (VRT) cases in collaboration with Revenue (and Customs authorities).
The role involves handling customer interactions, performing vehicle inspections for import conformance, and validating supporting documentation to ensure compliance with Irish legislation. Occasional travel to surrounding centres may be required.
This is a part-time position requiring 17.5 hours per week.
Role: To provide an efficient customer service, dealing with customer enquiries providing administration support to test centres in an effective and professional manner. Data gathering and validation for the import conformance inspection, and the inspection/validation of the vehicle for the import conformance.
Follow controlled procedures and perform activities within defined timescales. To conduct this in an efficient manner, offering a quality service to the public and provide and maintain an efficient service within their Test Centre and the Organisation.
Key Accountabilities:
Customer Service & Administration
· Provide exceptional front-line customer service and handle queries via phone, email, and in-person.
· Manage confidential documentation and ensure accurate data entry and record-keeping.
· Maintain structured filing systems and support internal communication with test centre staff.
· Respond professionally to difficult or complex customer issues, escalating where necessary.
VRT & Compliance Inspections
· Book and process vehicles for VRT import inspections in line with Revenue guidelines.
· Conduct visual and data-based inspections to confirm vehicle conformance.
· Validate that all necessary customs check and import duties have been fulfilled (e.g., identification, origin checks, customs clearance).
· Liaise with Revenue, Customs, and internal stakeholders or colleagues on inspection or documentation queries.
Process & Procedure Management
· Follow established procedures and maintain adherence to legislative standards.
· Process payments (cash/cheque/card) accurately and reconcile financial records.
· Support overall test centre operations with a strong focus on compliance and efficiency.
Qualifications/Experience/Competencies Required:
· Minimum Junior Certificate or equivalent.
· Full clean driving license (required).
· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
· Ability to work calmly and professionally under pressure.
· Strong IT skills (data entry, email, internal systems) essential.
· Experience in public-facing roles or customer service.
· High attention to detail with an ability to follow structured procedures.
· Capable of working independently or as part of a team.
· Report writing and documentation accuracy
· Understanding of Irish vehicle importation and customs procedures (Desirable)
