Full job description

Job Title: Catering Assistant (Permanent Part time)

Reports to: Catering Manager

Location: Bon Secours, Dublin

Job Purpose

To ensure the service of patient meals and the service of meals in the Restaurant in a safe and courteous manner. The fundamental philosophy guiding this position is to promote and preserve the Bon Secours Mission, Values and Ethos.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Distribution of menus to all patients. Sorting of these menus and informing Main Kitchen of final count in a timely manner.
  • Monitoring temperature control, recording of fridge and hot/cold food temperatures and informing Supervisor of any incorrect readings.
  • Ward catering staff to liaise with nurses and Dietitian regarding special diet or fasting lists.
  • Ordering weekly stock from Stores and stock rotation of goods in accordance with Hospital policy
  • Setting up patient trays correctly and ensuring Kitchen is left clean and tidy at all times.
  • Ensuring all charts are filled out correctly and any problems to the Supervisor immediately.
  • Report any hazards or faulty equipment to the Supervisor immediately
  • Adhere to strict portion control in accordance with Hospital policy
  • Deal with small complaints in a timely manner and report unresolved complaints to the Supervisor immediately.
  • Dealing with expectations of patient’s staff and visitors
  • Participate in training and retraining, including all statutory training e.g., manual handling, fire safety etc.
  • Implement quality standards ensuring that a quality service is provided all times.
  • Comply with, and observe, Health & Safety Regulations, ensuring safe working practices and a safe working environment (see below instructions re. patient handling, manual handling and physical demands of the job).
  • Undertake any other duties that may reasonably be required from time to time.

Physical Skills:

  • Loading food / stock (on tables, counters, shelves and to/from delivery trolleys) and moving trollies

Physical Demands:

  • Food trollies must be moved/manoeuvred by two persons at all times i.e., a person must be positioned at the front and the rear of the trolley. Under no circumstances should one person shove, push or pull a food trolley on their own.

  • Lifting stocks / supplies

Mental Demands:

  • Maintain level of general awareness during working day
